The Institute for European Studies (IES), along with several European universities and other institutes, is hosting a GARNET conference with the topic “The European Union in International Affairs.” The conference is organized under the framework of the FP6 Network of Excellence on ‘Global Governance, Regionalisation and Regulation: the Role of the EU (GARNET).’ This multidisciplinary conference is open to all relevant disciplines, including international and European law, international political economy, political science, and history. The deadline for paper proposals is September 18, 2009. Upon acceptance, completed papers must be submitted by March 31, 2010.

Call for Papers: Criminal Law Topics

The University of Chicago Legal Forum has announced its 2009 Symposium. The topic is “Crime, Criminal Law, and the Recession.” The Symposium will explore issues of the impact of inequality on crime, state budget constraints, alternative crime prevention strategies, white-collar and corporate crime and more. The deadline for submitting abstracts or article drafts is August 1, 2009. Authors accepted for publication must be available to present their papers at the Symposium in late October.
